decomposition

i pick at the corners of your lips

to remove dead skin

your palm presses into my wrist

fingernails form talons

that do not let go

you tell me to leave it alone

but i can’t

i can’t rest on your shoulder

and continue to surrender myself

to the lies

that splice your tongue

that cut at my throat

and expose the anxieties

that ferment in the underside of my belly

do not tell me that you love me

as you slip your hand between my thighs

but if you do

i request eye contact

you may lie

but i still crave intimacy

so i force myself onto you

my limbs intertwined with yours

where skin melts into satin

i lie beside you
